BCSC Tackles Military Pay; Adding CurriculumPlenty was on the agenda for the BCSC board at their Monday night meeting. Superintendent, Dr. John Quick noted that six existing policies were heard on a first reading, as well as one new proposal. The new proposal would allow employees of the Corporation to receive their regular pay and benefits when they are away and serving in a military capacity for less than fifteen days. At thirty days, their pay from the corporation would be adjusted to make up the difference lost between the military wage and the corporation wage. The board also heard the first reading for adjusting the curriculum for students to receive additional instruction in personal finance. Quick noted that a number of real-world mistakes are often reflected in new education requirements from both the state and federal government. Students will now be required to take at least one personal finance course each of these school years. Quick says school funding also remains an issue as state lawmakers get closer to ending their session. He says they cannot make up the entire three million their losing through a funds transfer. Under the best circumstances, Quicks says they would be looking at about half that amount. Overall, he says the School Corporation is doing better than others and that the rainy day fund remains intact. Last Updated: Tuesday, March 09, 2010 6:23:45 AM |
